In March 2018, Ford Motor Company, the creator of some of America’s best-known muscle cars, introduced its 2019 Mustang GT California Special. Inspired by Steve McQueen’s car in his 1968 film “Bullitt,” this vehicle brings muscle and high-tech handling back to the line. It features Mustang’s trademark fading stripe, custom embroidered floor mats, and red-accented, suede-trimmed seats. In addition to that, the 2019 Mustang GT California Special has 12-speaker audio and carries a 5-liter, eight-cylinder engine that can reach speeds of over 150 miles per hour.

By offering this car, Ford hopes to highlight the iconic nature of the Mustang. These cars debuted in 1964 and have been popular among owners ever since. Personalized designs have been consistently offered by regional auto dealers since the car was introduced. The original California Special was inspired by the 1967 Shelby GT coupe prototype, and eventually led to Ford creating a limited number of California Specials in 1968.
